Website: www.botanik.univie.ac.at/iapt/

Description from the Website: The purpose of the Association, founded at the Seventh International Botanical Congress in Stockholm on 18 July 1950, is to carry out projects of interest and concern to systematic biologists, especially those which require or profit from international cooperation. This it has achieved with distinction for almost half a century.

IAPT is dedicated to organismal biodiversity the extent, recognition, organization, evolution, and naming of plants and fungi, both living and fossil. To those wishing to be at the forefront of these issues, membership in IAPT will be rewarding. The IAPT maintains the International Bureau for Plant Taxonomy and Nomenclature, and engages in a wide range of activities consistent with its focus.

The Association constitutes the Section for Plant Taxonomy of the International Union of Biological Sciences (IUBS).

THE "REVIEWS AND NOTICES OF PUBLICATIONS" ("RevNot") COLUMN OF TAXON:

Rudolf Schmid has been editor of the RevNot column beginning with the February 1986 issue of Taxon. Frans A. Stafleu (1921-97) was junior editor for the 1986 and 1987 issues; Schmid has been sole editor for issues from 1988 to date. From 1982 to 1985 Schmid supplied to then editors Stafleu and Richard S. Cowan (1921-97) numerous reviews and especially notices.

In August 1999 at the XVI International Botanical Congress held in St. Louis, Rudolf Schmid was awarded a Special Engler Medal in Silver for 1999 in recognition of his accomplishments as editor of the "Reviews and notices of publications" column of Taxon since its February 1986 issue.

Richard A. Howard in his An almanac of botanical trivia (1996) noted (p. 11): 15 March 1988 — "Rudolph [sic] Schmid assumes sole editorship of the Reviews section of TAXON. This has become the 'first read' article for many subscribers." See Rudolf Schmid's review of Howard's book.
